The closure of the exams brings about a close to another year of education. It signifies an end in many ways. However, it is also the beginning of many things - everything will come full circle, it just depends on when that happens. In this vicious cycle of life, a year (or less) will pass by before you get to the Final Year Exams again. The thing is, this time, it's harder to score. Everything is difficult, you have to make quantum leaps in terms of effort and conceptual understanding from each significant promotion. This transition can be seen in primary school kids as they move up from lower primary to upper primary, secondary school people as they move up from lower secondary to upper secondary, jc people as they move from upper secondary to tertiary education (this is the largest jump to me), and finally on to university.
My point is, although I am thrilled that the final year exams have ended (FINALLY), in many other ways, there isn't really too much to be happy about other than having more time on my hands - the benefits being getting to go out to watch more movies like... "Scoop" for example.
To mark my ... return from a long absence from the blogging sphere I will type out an article which I think is highly relevant to all.
THE PAP AND THE PEOPLE - A GREAT AFFECTIVE DIVIDE (1994) - Straits Times Article
By Catherine Lim
PART 1 (i'm too lazy to type it all out at one go. heh)
It is no secret that while the PAP Government has inspired in the people much respect for its efficiency and much gratitude for the good life as a result of this efficiency, there is very little in the way of affectionate regard. It is also no secret that the Government is not much bothered by this attitude. The familiarPAP stance is: better to be unpopular and do a good job than to be popular and lead the country into chaos and ruin. At a time of peak economic prosperity and social stability, an estrangement between the government and the people must appear odd. Whence arises this Great Affective Divide?
