Has anyone managed to catch the Straits Time's World Cup predictions in the sports section? Well if you haven't done so, you can count yourself lucky. And for those of us who happen to be more unfortunate and have not been spared of the comedy of the sports correspondents, I share your pain, having come vis-a-vis with the horrendous "NEWS" (if that's what they call it) every morning. It's simply appalling - to put it nicely. There are a million other adjectives which come to mind that can be appropriately used.
To spare the unenlightened few from any further confusion, let me proceed by listing a few of very many falsehoods in the papers these days, by just mentioning those of most trivial of matters - the world cup. (Fifa (c) World (c) Cup (c) I mean).
Argentina as World Cup champions? The guy must have bet his ass on Argentina winning the World Cup! Some might argue that they have the calibre to win the World Cup. That I cannot disagree with. With world-class players such as Gabriel Heinze (the energetic left-back of Manchester United who when out injured, seemed to bring United's game to a standstill), Sorin & Riquelme (who led tiny Villareal to the Champions League semis), Hernan Crespo (of Chelsea fame), few would dare to count Argentina out of World Cup contention. However, World Cup CHAMPIONS? They've only won the Cup twice for goodness sake. And that was way back in 1978 & 1986! Madness. "STUNTS WILL UNDO SAMBA BOYS". What utter rubbish. And yet that appears, on H33 of today's newspaper. If you actually saw the Confederations Cup held last year in Germany, Brasil THRASHED Argentina 4-1, and that's when Argentina played with a FULL-STRENGTH team and when Brasil took the foot off the pedal in the 2nd half. The correspondent also had the cheek to lambast the Dutch. Yes, they had a battle of the egos in previous editions of international competitions. However, with a new look side, void of any ageing superstars with the exception of goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar and Philip Cocu, they are WIDELY TOUTED BY EVERYONE (except that correspondent of Einstein intelligence) to progress at least to the quarterfinals. Well I only have this to say. BUGGER OFF MAN. If you want to bother someone with your crappy predictions, go bother someone else. You reckon that England will make it to the semis yea? Well that's typical of a moronic EPL viewer with no BRAINS. You've subconciously been manipulated you twit. England sucks. It's obvious. They are definitely the most over-rated side in history. Spain and Portugal as quarterfinalists? You've got to be kidding me. If you've said that the Dutch are pernennial under-acheivers having always boasted the best talent and having never won the Cup, Spain and Portugal definitely fall in the same catergory bozo. Spain has never won the World Cup and even lost to puny South Korea at the last World Cup on penalties, their best place being a 4th place finish at the 1950 World Cup, while Portugal has never won the Cup as well, their best performance being a 3rd place finish at the 1966 World Cup.
What a joke.
Anyway I hope I have enlightened you guys enough and proved my point.
I have decided that this blog will not be an online diary of sorts where I drone on about the day-to-day happenings of my life like what everyone else does. Instead this will be an intellectual platform for discussion of topics I feel require attention, with some personal entries of course, without which it would cease to function.
